WE shared the news that a major supermarket chain is one step closer to moving into a historic Carlisle building, after plans have been submitted for signage at the city centre store.

Plans have been submitted for the display of one fascia sign and one internally illuminated projecting sign at the former House of Fraser store on English Street in Carlisle, by major supermarket chain Tesco.

Here's what our readers thought.

Joan Cliff said: "Lots of people don’t have cars, use buses and work in town. This city store is important for us."

Janet Seggie said: "Thank goodness I've missed Tesco since it closed and as I don't drive it's handy for me."

Tracy Graham also said: "Not everyone drives, a food store in town is ideal for people like me."

Linzi Davidson said: "It will be nice to have the Tesco back in town. I have missed shopping in there. It was going to be on my walking route to work and home. Good for the people of Carlisle who don't have a car."

Raymond Fowles said: "All we need now is something in Debenhams' building."

Ann Cooper said: "Great for the town centre after Farm Foods and Iceland closed down in town."

Kriss Brown added: "Don't forget though it's going to be an Express rather than a Metro store, so much smaller with fewer lines."
