ONE of our reporters shared their opinion on what living in Carlisle is like as a new resident.

Our readers responded to their first impression of the historic city.

Peter Scholes said: "I've been banging this drum for decades. Our city is superb. Yes it has problems but the positives far outweigh any negatives," adding: "For those who think it is bad, try living in most other places around the UK then you might just realise how much Carlisle and the surrounding area has to offer."

Ian Gordon said: "A very good and accurate summary. Carlisle has great people, fantastic history, lovely layout and architecture. Perhaps above all, it has a lot of local businesses and individuals, who want help each other, and to build a better city."

He added: "I've moved back, after 10 years away, and I am just delighted to be home. The author's mention of Vienna is interesting - there's a lot that Carlisle could pick up on, from that other great city."

Emma DH commented: "I feel Carlisle could make so much more of its heritage. The Roman site currently being dug at the cricket club should be invested in, already it has had worldwide visitors. Imagine what it could bring to the city if it was fully open."
