WE shared the news that the popularity of a steam train chartered to take passengers from Carlisle to York organised by the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company is creating a demand for more steam specials.

The LMS Royal Scot steam train carried over 400 people to York for the first weekend of the Christmas Markets, taking in the scenic journey down the world-famous Settle-Carlisle line along the way.

As tickets sold out in days for the standard class, an extra carriage was added to meet the demand from people across Cumbria looking to enjoy a day out by steam train.

Here's how readers reacted.

Yve Harland said: "What a magical day I had helping out on the Santa stream train for the S&C line. Glad to see more steam trains will be about more often."

Pip Claire Gofton said: "Great for tourism. But it would be better to help service standards and quality of the transport system in general and fewer omissions could be used if we had accessible, viable and clean regular transportation."

Barbara Liddell said: "Yes please. Had a lovely day on the train on Saturday. The food was delicious."

Hilary Chadwick Widgery said: "It would be great to have a regular clean reliable service for locals."

Marshall Wilson, Nic Barnes and Karolyn Jordan also said they would be interested in more steam train specials.
