WE shared a picture of the half-demolished swimming pool building at James St, Carlisle, which evoked memories for some of our readers.

Here's what they said.

Lisa Marie said: "Went every Saturday afternoon with my dad. I learnt to swim here with him. I was swimming at the age of 2/3. My dad swam there as a young teenager and his record wasn’t beaten for years."

She added she had a different opinion on how the new pool should have been built at the Sands Leisure Centre.

The new centre boasts first-class leisure and swimming facilities, as well as an entertainment venue on a single site in the heart of Carlisle.

"They should have built it differently. Swimming pool for the ones that want to train and swim and then had a family pool with slides, wave machine, children’s area, lazy river etc, that would have brought in visitors to the city."

Sandra Clarke said: "Let's hope they don't damage the Turkish baths building," while Susan Beard commented: "So sad, kids today can't just go for a swim. You have got to book a slot. We went every weekend, all pals together. No baby warm pool to go to. No warm middle pool for little kids and family. Sad times."

Elizabeth Nicholson said: "Another part of Carlisle gone."
