WE shared the news that after nearly six months of regeneration work, Carlisle's Devonshire Street marked its official opening with a party event last weekend.
Cumberland Council welcomed hundreds of visitors, including new MP Julie Minns, to the new-look street for an afternoon of free music and entertainment, giving members of the public an opportunity to support businesses such as The Thin White Duke and In The Meantime, which have found the last five months difficult.
Here's what readers thought.
Darren McDonald said: "It looks fantastic," and Danny Mills added: "We've just moved to the area. Really enjoyed the street party and it was lovely to see people enjoying themselves, not much to laugh about at the moment. Come on Carlisle, onwards and upwards."
Some readers disagreed, such as Amanda Nelson, who said: "This money should be put back into the community to help our pensioners and kids activities, perhaps some ideas for the teenagers?"
Michelle Joanne Campbell said: "I was impressed how clean it was only a couple of hours after it finished as well."
Michelle James said: "Any improvements can only be good for the City."
Julie Elliot said: "It was a fab afternoon on Saturday. Something different. Such a good atmosphere too. Should be done more often."
Carla Hutchison commented: "It was great to see so many people so happy and enjoying the community. Well done all involved and thanks for all the hard work."
