The wait for a new Carlisle United manager is continuing - with the process of identifying a successor to Keith Curle still said to be "ongoing".

The club are believed to have narrowed down their search after a period of second interviews, but there has been no announcement today.

Chief executive Nigel Clibbens had told a fan last week that a "decision" would be made by "midweek".

United would also not comment on the names linked with the post, which today included former Bradford boss Stuart McCall who dramatically surged up the betting.

The 53-year-old was installed as evens favourite with some bookmakers.

The News & Star , though, understands the ex-Bantams chief is NOT expected to be in the running for the Blues post.

United sources simply insisted "the process is ongoing" as the Blues look to finalise their choice.

It has proved to be a further day of waiting for fans, with it being nearly a month now since it was announced that former boss Curle would be leaving Brunton Park.

There were also suggestions that the heavily-linked Livingston boss David Hopkin has interest from other clubs, including at least two in Scotland.

He has said he will meet Livingston directors tomorrow for talks about his future.

One possible destination for the 47-year-old could be St Mirren, whose manager Jack Ross looks set for the Sunderland job.

Ross has also been a target for Ipswich but he has now reportedly agreed terms with the Black Cats.

Morton have also been linked with Hopkin.
