Wycombe Wanderers 4 Carlisle United 3: Two injury-time goals from Wycombe broke Carlisle United's hearts after the Blues had fought back from 2-0 down to lead at Adams Park.
Marcus Bean's volley in the 95th minute saw an incredibly dramatic game go in the second-placed team's favour.
That came moments after Paris Cowan-Hall had struck to deny Carlisle what seemed set to be a fine away win.
Danny Grainger, Jamie Devitt and Cole Stockton had scored in the space of 20 minutes as Keith Curle's side mounted a second-half comeback.
Jack Bonham also saved a Joe Jacobson penalty in a stunning start to the second half, which saw the hosts' Luke O'Nien sent off for handball when Grainger scored for the Blues.
But the late sting in the tail from Gareth Ainsworth's men left United still in 13th, 10 points adrift of the play-off places.
There was little hint at the drama to come when the hosts opened up a 2-0 lead by the half-hour mark.
They broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Adebayo Akinfenwa held off several defenders and slipped the ball through for Matt Bloomfield to slot it past Bonham.
Then it was 2-0, as Bonham spilled a Cowan-Hall shot and O'Nien reacted first to fire it home.
That brought an abrupt end to a reasonable start from Carlisle, which saw Kris Twardek cause Wycombe some early problems.
He could have opened the scoring in the 14th minute after running onto a James Brown ball, but Dominic Gape got back to clear his weak finish.
Afterwards, though, the Blues struggled to threaten the home goal, as Cowan-Hall, Akinfenwa and Nathan Tyson looked to pose United further problems.
And manager Keith Curle did not even wait until the break to make a change, substituting Luke Joyce in the 34th minute to bring on Kelvin Etuhu.
The Blues boss later said the midfielder was suffering from a groin problem.
He made another substitution at the break, bringing on new signing Jamal Campbell-Ryce for Clint Hill, who had been suffering from a virus.
And the veteran made a quick impact, seeing his 48th-minute cross flapped by keeper Scott Brown, Twardek's shot then handled by O'Nien on the line.
As he saw red, Grainger put away his ninth of the season from the spot.
Devitt volleyed over a great chance to make it two before Bonham upended Nathan Tyson at the other end to concede a penalty.
But the keeper guessed correctly to deny Jacobson.
United then levelled on 68 minutes when Devitt met a James Brown shot and saw his header deflect into the net.
Carlisle were then in dreamland two minutes later when January signing Stockton rose to score with a superb header in front of the 298 travelling fans.
Wycombe tried to fight back but, with Bonham saving well from Akinfenwa, it seemed United were going to see home the points, Campbell-Ryce impressing in a central midfield role.
But an injury-time salvo broke them, as Cowan-Hall capitalised on poor defending to head in sub Craig Mackail-Smith's cross to make it 3-3.
Then, as United cleared a free-kick, Bean sent Adams Park wild with his volley which found the bottom left corner.
The home side celebrated by running the length of the pitch as United were left in disbelief.
Curle kept faith with the team that started last weekend's win against Forest Green, with other new signings Ashley Nadesan and Louis Gray unused subs.
