Cumbrian cricket star Graham Clark has recorded his first century Down Under for Newtown and Chilwell CC.

Clark has followed in brother Jordan’s footsteps, in heading to the Geelong Cricket Association over the winter months.

And the former Cleator CC star is making his own impact on the Victoria cricketing scene.

He smashed 115 runs off 146 balls for Newtown against Murgheboluc in the first day of their clash.

But the Durham batsman was modest about his involvement as his side reached 294-8.

“It was a good day, this is a nice place to come and bat, the facilities here are really good,” Clark told GCA TV.

“I think our openers did a good job, it was tough early doors with a new ball and they grafted really hard.

“We could have lost a couple of early wickets and we could have been in a lot of trouble but they put us in a really good position.

“I just wanted to carry on their good work and bat for a long time and just tick over the scoreboard.

“Eighty-five overs is a long time so I wanted to bat as long as I could and see where the team was with 15/20 overs to go.”

Graham says he is often reminded of the impact his brother Jordan, who plays for Lancashire, had on the Aussie club, where he spent last winter.

“He left a big impression here which I am often reminded of by all the opposition players,” he said. “But it is great that he did so well.”

And when he was asked about the difference between him and his brother?

“I think Jordan is more of a bowler than a batter to be honest, he has more pace than me,” he said.

“I like to think of myself as a batsman who bowls a little bit. But I want to make a few more contributions with the bat.”

The match resumes on Saturday.
