History is being made at Derwent Park and Workington Comets owner Laura Morgan hopes the town will turn out to see it as her riders bid to bring long-awaited major silverware to the club.
The club faces three finals in the coming weeks, starting this weekend with four meetings in three days as they visit Lakeside in the Championship Shield final first leg tomorrow night, then host the Hammers for the return on Saturday in a double-header with an outstanding league fixture against the same side.
They then travel to Scunthorpe on Sunday for the Knockout Cup final first leg.
A bumper crowd enjoyed Sunday’s play-off semi-final second leg against Glasgow and Morgan believes it is important even more people come out to back the Comets and roar them to glory in their remaining crunch clashes.
"History has already been made and we haven’t even raced a final yet, so there’s hopefully more to come and it really is properly exciting stuff," Morgan said.
"I’m really proud to be a part of it.
"All the blood, sweat and tears have been worth it for that split second when those two riders came through the finish to win the semi-final.
"Everybody’s buzzing about it and what’s really nice to hear is people who’ve never been to speedway, or haven’t been for a long time, talking about this team.
"If we can get that many in for a semi-final, I’m sure we can get a lot more in for the finals."
The promotion have received messages from all over the speedway community, including Comets legend Carl Stonehewer, since the weekend and Morgan admitted the sensational comeback win against Glasgow had brought her to tears.
"What an absolutely thrilling last heat that was on Sunday and it was nice to see so many supporters and some faces I hadn’t seen around for a long time," she said.
"It was excellent to have the support that we had and I think it fired the boys up having so many people there.
"I wept buckets which I think was just from the shock of it.
"It’s been a difficult year in many ways, losing Dan Bewley and having to start bringing guests in.
"I’m especially happy for Rene Bach and Mason Campton because they’ve got quite a few years of service for Workington so for them to be part of that was fantastic.
"The track was excellent and they did a fantastic job to get it as it was because, when I saw the rain on Saturday night, I thought that was it."
