Young Carlisle United pair Max Brown and Kieron Olsen are heading to Kendal Town on a month’s loan - less than two weeks after joining Penrth.
The teenagers had initially linked up with the Frenchfield Park club on November 6.
They did not, though, feature for Penrith in their game against West Auckland on Saturday.
And it has since emerged that the duo were not eligible to be loaned to a club at that level under the terms that had been agreed.
FA rules for the 2018/19 campaign state that EFL clubs can only send players on youth loan deals to clubs from steps one to four of the non-league pyramid.
Penrith are in Northern League Division One, which is step five.
Kendal, though, are in Northern Premier Division One West, a level above.
“They’re not allowed to go [to Penrith], because they're too low in the divisions,” said Carlisle manager John Sheridan. "They're going to Kendal now.
"It's another good local club and we know they'll get looked after, and we'll be able to keep an eye on them.
"It's a good move for all concerned."
The pair could figure for the south Cumbrian outfit at Glossop North End this Saturday.
Both have previously been on loan at Workington Reds this season.
They remain eligible to play for the Blues in the Cumberland Cup.
A young United side face Pirelli FC in the second round tonight at Penrith's ground (kick-off 7pm).
