Current and former Workington Comets riders have expressed sadness at the club’s decision to pull out of the 2019 SGB Championship.
Comets had signed seven riders to make up the team for the new season with a view to defending the treble they won last year, but owner Laura Morgan announced yesterday that they had been forced to reconsider their decision to run.
Mason Campton, who had signed to ride for Workington again this season, took to his Twitter account to reveal that it now looked like he may be forced out of the sport.
He said: “Sad news about Workington.
“With all teams full, and a visa expiry date coming up, things aren’t looking good.
“Looks like I’m back to the real world here.
“Had some fun.”
Another member of the team, Simon Lambert, released a statement confirming he hopes to find a new club.
He said: “I got the call at 9pm last night [Sunday] to say the Comets weren’t going to run this season. Of course, everyone is shocked and disappointed but I still intend to race this year with new equipment and a racesuit on order. I am keen and hungry to get back on my bike and I am open to any offers as I just want to get back racing.”
Ex-Comets Nicolai Klindt, Dan Bewley and Craig Cook also Tweeted their disappointment.
