Maryport's Cath O’Donnell was among England’s try-scorers as they thumped Scotland 80-0 to seal a ninth women’s Six Nations Grand Slam.
In front of a women’s record crowd of 13,278 fans at Twickenham on Saturday, the Red Roses ran in 12 tries with O’Donnell among the scorers.
Also crossing the whitewash for England were Jess Breach (2), Sarah Beckett, Natasha Hunt, Kelly Smith, Poppy Cleall (2), Amy Cokayne, Sarah Bern, Emily Scarratt and captain Sarah Hunter.
Hunter believes the Grand Slam could just be the start of something for the whole squad. Keswick’s Abbie Scott was also in the England side.
“We’re right at the beginning,” Hunter said after the game. “This was a new squad back in the autumn and it changed again in January, and by no means are we the finished article yet - we’re still building for where we want to get to.
"Tonight is all about enjoying this victory as Six Nations champions and Grand Slams don’t come along too often, so you’ve got to enjoy it and make the most of it.”
Coach Simon Middleton added to England Rugby’s website: “We talk about celebrating wins whether they are small ones or big ones, and this one is massive for us.
"This competition means so much to us and it was soul destroying losing it last year and we wanted to put that right. We wanted to do it in the right way, play some good stuff and show how we’re progressing as a side.”
