Workington Reds continued their 100 per cent start to the league campaign thanks to a Scott Allison brace and a masterclass at the back from goalkeeper Jim Atkinson.
The league leaders were good value for their 1-0 lead at half-time and showed no sluggishness, despite the kick-off being delayed by 45 minutes due to the Pontefract team bus being caught up in traffic.
But the visitors upped the ante in the second half and even after Scott Allison extended Reds' lead, goalkeeper Atkinson was forced into a number of impressive stops.
A late Pontefract goal only added to the tension and Atkinson was called upon again with an outstanding tip on to the bar but Reds saw the game out.
