Hammer thrower Nick Miller is asking for extra sponsorship - despite being given top-level Olympic podium funding by British Athletics this week.
Reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallist Miller was offered membership to British Athletics’ programme for 2020 on Monday.
While pleased to once again be receiving support from the national governing body, 26-year-old Cumbrian Miller revealed he will also be looking for additional support.
The Scotby man told The News & Star: "Athlete funding is all tied up with performances in major competitions so, of course, I’m really happy I’ve been awarded some funding again this year.
"To be honest, although funding helps, it’s not enough and I will try, as I do every year, to supplement this with some form of sponsorship.
"But I haven’t had any success in other years, which is disheartening.
"I’ll be writing my letters again and, hopefully, somebody will respond this year."
But looking ahead to next year and the Tokyo Olympics, Miller added: “I need to keep my focus on what I can do, though, and I’m certainly more than capable of being on that podium at the Olympics. In fact, I’m one of GB’s best male athletes in terms of world rankings.
“As I’ve said before, it’s [about what happens] on the day though and, sometimes, things don’t go right, or you get a wrong call.
“To give myself the best chance, I’m staying focused on training at Loughborough and also in California, where my coach Tore [Gustafsson] is based.”
