Workington's Veterans Club moved to the top of Division One in the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League this week, with a 6-0 whitewash at second division Workington Legion.

Paul Mostyn and Craig Davies comfortably took the first two frames, before Mike Dawson added the next to put the Vets 3-0 up. A solid performance from captain Kevin Basnett, then Mark Tatton at his tactical best, the score moved to 5-0. The final frame saw Vets' Steve Garroway trail by nearly 20 points with the colours remaining.

But, with a difficult set of balls, the Vets cueist dispatched one tricky pot after another to clear for a remarkable frame and match win.

Station Road A and B went head to head in the battle of the Division One sides. With a close game predicted the inevitable 3-3 draw ensued.

A black-ball victory for Kevin Kirkham put the B team ahead, but with the As' Tom Thompson easily winning frame two, the score was 1-1.

The B side went 2-1 up with a victory from Peter O'Hagan, but back came the A side again, with an Andrew Henderson win making it 2-2. A frame-winning break of 30 from Mark Robertson gave the A team a sniff of victory, but the Bs' reliable captain, Stephen O'Hagan, delivered another final frame victory to tie the match

Workington's United Club maintained top spot in Division Two with a 3-3 draw at their closest rivals, and fellow second tier opponents, Flimby Social.

A frame-winning contribution of 36 from Shane Evitts put Flimby one up, and with team mate Paul Vickers easily taking the next, the score moved to 2-0. United's Clive Lister pulled one back before Andrew Mitchelhill making a break of 32 in the next, the score was now 2-2. Sal Cakmak put the United Club in front for the first time with a win in frame five, but the draw was delivered by Flimby's Mike Walker with a relatively straightforward win in the last.

Finally, Division One's Workington Golf Club improved to third in the table with the a 5-1 home win against Division Two's Maryport Social. Bryan Walker and Lewis Tilley took the first two for the Golf Club and Ryan Ismay restricted his opponent to just one point in the next to rack-up a 3-0 lead. Mark Brasted and Mark Cowen both impressed to make it 5-0. The point-per-frame format gave Maryport something to play for, and with real determination, Andrew Scott took the last to avoid the whitewash.
