Station Road club hosted the two crucial games in the battle for the Workington Pool League A section title.
In a double-header Station Rd B took on leaders JJ’s A and Station Rd C entertained second-placed Senhouse Street.
A slip-up by Senhouse would almost certainly hand the title to JJ’s.
Thanks to dominating the singles, JJ’s were comfortable 7-2 winners, so all focus was on Senhouse’s progress against the home C team.
Tom Thompson got Senhouse off to a flyer, but Peter Collins then edged Station Rd into a 2-1 lead, and with the next two shared, Dave Bateman cleared off the break to help Station Rd lead 4-2, but John Teasdale’s clearance reduced the gap to one before Stephen Cairns and Collins got Station Rd over the line for a 5-4 victory.
JJ’s now have a six point cushion with only ten points left to play for.
At the bottom, Lifeboat A faced a crucial clash at fellow strugglers Harrington Legion, where a win for the Lifeboat would see them go level with the Legion.
But it was the home side who went ahead in the singles as Martin Morley helped them into a 4-2 lead, and Legion sealed it in the first double to claim a 5-4 win, and are now four-points above the relegation zone.
Station Road D moved into fourth place as they beat bottom side JJ’s B.
Trailing 2-0 Wayne King sprung Station Rd into life and they finished the singles all square at 3-3, before Dan Hancox and Ian Johnston gave Station Road the lead which they didn’t relinquish as they went on to win 5-4.
Flimby suffered a big loss to the Vets, who used home advantage well, with captain Neil Henderson starting the rout as they claimed all six singles.
Flimby avoided a whitewash, taking two of the doubles in a 7-2 defeat.
Pack Horse stay third after a 6-3 victory over the Grapes who never recovered from going 4-1 down. Simon Fraser and Brian Allison sealed the win for the Pack in the first doubles.
In the B league Railway A’s Brain Kendall and captain Tom Agnew won a final frame decider over Grapes A, to help Railway A replace them at the top of the table.
Lifeboat B rose to ninth in the league due to a 6-3 victory over JJs C, while Seaton Royal Oak’s 5-4 win over Skinny Jimmy’s kept them in eighth.
