Copeland’s most successful goalie played a key role in Manchester United’s scintillating 3-2 victory over Liverpool in their FA Cup fourth round tie.

Dean Henderson, born in Whitehaven, was in goal for Premier League giants Manchester United last weekend, as they faced a historic rival in Liverpool FC. Henderson had the unenviable task of stopping shots fired his way by the great Mo Salah.

A recent encounter between the two sides was criticised as lacklustre by fans but the FA Cup magic bolstered the clash which was a scrappy affair from the first whistle.

Henderson had to make a dive in just the tenth minute and later fell victim to Liverpool forward Salah’s sneaky placement early on as he chipped it over his head and into United’s goal.

But Mason Greenwood made good on a third attempt at scoring for United within the twenty-sixth minute, equalising the score.

Marcus Rashford later outran the chasing Liverpool squad to gracefully slot the ball past their keeper.

But Salah’s sneaky ability to be in the right place at the right time meant that he later scored past Henderson, to the Carlisle United Academy alum’s visible frustration. The two would be foes for most of the night.

Henderson remained stoic however, blocking a further two attempts by Salah in the second half.

The Haven-born standout was able to keep the score level for United, despite the best efforts of Liverpool’s front-line, until Bruno Fernandes took Manchester United into the lead.

United were able to keep the score at 3-2 in a scrappy affair with their historic rivals, due in no small part to the workmanlike performance of Henderson.
