England 2 Denmark 1 - Harry Kane's extra-time goal sends Three Lions into Euro 2020 final against Italy

Harry Kane's extra-time goal against Denmark sent the Three Lions through to their first major tournament final since 1966.

They will face Italy at Wembley on Sunday night after Gareth Southgate's side prevailed on a hugely tense night at the national stadium.

Captain Kane proved the matchwinner when he netted the rebound after his penalty had been saved by the outstanding Kasper Schmeichel in the 10th minute of extra-time.

It came after a contentious decision to award England a spot-kick when Raheem Sterling was fouled by Joachim Maehle.

Southgate's side held on for the remainder of extra-time to trigger big celebrations among a 60,000+ crowd.

There was a huge release of emotion for England after 120 dramatic minutes against the Danes.

They had to come from behind in normal time after Mikkel Damsgaard gave Denmark the lead with a superb free-kick in the 30th minute.

But England were quickly back on terms when, nine minutes later, Danish skipper Simon Kjaer turned a Bukayo Saka cross into his own net from close range under pressure from Raheem Sterling.

England had made a sharp start with a Kane cross proving just out of Sterling's reach.

But the Danes enjoyed a dangerous spell midway through the half.

After Kyle Walker's pace had helped thwart danger early on, a Kalvin Phillips error saw Pierre-Emile Hjojberg tested England's ex-Carlisle United keeper Jordan Pickford, before the keeper's own mistake saw Martin Braithwaite have a shot deflected wide.

Damsgaard curled a shot wide amid more Danish pressure, and then cracked a fine 30-yard free-kick past Pickford for the first goal England have conceded in the tournament.

England's response, though, was positive, with Sterling denied at point-blank range by Schmeichel before Saka's run and low cross was diverted in by Kjaer.

After the break, Pickford made an important save for England before Harry Maguire was denied by a superb Schmeichel save as he attacked a Mason Mount free-kick.

At the other end, Pickford comfortably saved when Kasper Dolberg turned and shot on the edge of the England box.

Mount then saw an effort held by Schmeichel as England looked to apply more pressure around the hour mark.

Denmark made the first substitutions, a triple change seeing Poulsen, Wass and Norgaard replacing Damsgaard, Stryger and Dolberg on 66 minutes.

Southgate then sent on Jack Grealish for Saka six minutes later, Wass soon into the book for fouling the Aston Villa star - before Kane was denied an England penalty on VAR check after a Norgaard challenge.

Phillips rifled wide from 30 yards as the game entered a tense last 10 minutes, and then the midfielder fired over the bar in added time.

Kane was denied by Schmeichel with an attempt from the right early into extra-time before Southgate brought on Jordan Henderson and Phil Foden for Rice and Mount.

England had much the better of the first period of extra-time and got their reward when Dutch ref Danny Makkelie pointed to the spot when Sterling went down.

Schmeichel dived to his left to parry Kane's penalty but the Spurs frontman made no mistake from the rebound.

Southgate opted to replace substitute Grealish with Kieran Trippier for the second half of extra-time as England looked to contain Denmark's attempted fightback.

Pickford touched a Braithwaite shot past the post, while England survievd a series of set-pieces to set up Sunday's final against Roberto Mancini's Italy.
