STAGE 6 of the Tour of Britain is set to kick off in Carlisle with the finishing line at the Angel of the North in Gateshead.
The race starts at Devonshire walk, Carlisle on Friday 10th September and will head south through the city. The route will also pass through Dalston, Motherby, Penrith and will feature some magnificent scenary along the route.
Some of the key locations along the route are Motherby, Penrith and Hexham before cylists arrive in Gateshead for the final leg of the route.
This is the third consecutive year that Carlisle has hosted the start of the race and the 10th time that Cumbria has hosted the UKs biggest cycling event.
Cllr David Southward, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for Economic development and property, said: "We're delighted for it to come back to Cumbria again, only London has hosted more than us.
"It's a great opportunity to attract our young people into sport. We still have a high obesity rate one of the highest in the country, usually there are activities to get children involved with the race."
Commenting on the announcement, Tour of Britain Race Director Mick Bennet, said: "The Cumbrian stages of the Tour of Britain always prove to be memorable and decisive, as we saw in 2019 when Matheiu van der Poel won a very similar stage to Kendal to take the overall lead."
The race will officially kick off on Sunday 5 September with stage 1 starting in Cornwall for the first time in the races history and will end on Sunday 12th September in Aberdeen, Scotland with stage 8, Stonehaven to Aberdeen.
Coverage of the tour of Britain will be available to watch on ITV4.
