Cumbrian midfielder Kyle Dempsey is the subject of transfer interest ahead of tomorrow's deadline.
But a reported bid from Charlton has been laughed off by Dempsey's manager at Gillingham.
Steve Evans told Kent Online that the Addicks had bid £100,000 for the former Carlisle United man.
The manager said 25-year-old Maryport star Dempsey, who is captain at the Priestfield club, would not be leaving.
“That [Charlton’s bid] was insulting, it was £100,000," Evans said. "Even with £200,000 they would get laughed out.
“You just wonder sometimes if that was just to upset the player.
"That was done to us before the game [against Charlton] was cancelled [because of international call-ups].
"Come on Charlton, behave yourselves. Nonsense.
“They can come back in if they like but they are not getting him. You don’t insult someone one minute and then be alright with them the next do you?
“Kyle is a valuable part of what we are trying to achieve here.”
Dempsey has impressed for Gillingham after joining the League One outfit last summer.
He was immediately handed the captain's armband by Evans and has made 49 appearances, scoring eight goals.
The west Cumbrian was previously with Fleetwood and Huddersfield, following his outstanding breakthrough for Carlisle United.
After coming through the Blues' youth ranks, Dempsey starred in the 2014/15 season and was a multiple player-of-the-year winner, his performances leading Huddersfield to sign the midfielder.
He made 51 appearances for the Brunton Park club, scoring 11 goals.
He last week said of speculation on his future: “I have a year left at the club, that is my main focus, if anything happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t, but I am happy here and I will just continue to play my football
“You know you are doing something right - you are putting in performances that are attracting clubs and I need to concentrate on being here, putting in performances for this shirt, especially for the fans and and myself.”
