Carlisle United captain Callum Guy has offered an apology to fans for the Blues' poor performance at Hartlepool.
And the midfielder has insisted the team are determined to put things right as soon as possible.
Guy was speaking after the 2-1 defeat in front of a big travelling support at Victoria Park.
He said: “As a group we all want to do well for this club and for ourselves.
“We know the performance let the fans down and they travelled over in numbers.
“They sang throughout the game and gave us really good backing, and I’m disappointed for them.
"We can only apologise and say that we’ll get it right next time.”
Guy, who was speaking through the club's official media channels, was not available to speak to other media after Saturday's game as the team prepared to leave Hartlepool's ground.
His interview also came after speculation about interest from Wrexham in the Blues skipper.
The National League club are understood to have an interest in the influential midfielder but there is no sign yet of any potential deal.
Guy, 24, added of Saturday's performance: “It was a bad day at the office, we weren’t really at it and we’re disappointed about that.
“We got beat, which is nothing more than we deserved, and we know we have to be better.
“It’s hard to put a finger on why, we just didn’t quite click. We changed formation and we’d been working on that in training all week, and that looked good."
Guy insisted boss Chris Beech had issued a "really positive" half-time team-talk but admitted Carlisle's second-half display mirrored their first-half showing.
"We don’t have too many games like this and I think we’ve started the season quite well," added the ex-Derby and Blackpool man.
“We’ve put in some good performances and we probably should have taken three points from the games we’ve drawn.
“That wasn’t the case with this one but with the lads we have in this dressing room we’ll be there to put it right on Tuesday and on Saturday.”
“Every team will have an off day at times during the season,” he added. “It’s about putting it right, and we’re definitely capable of that."
