Skipper Callum Guy insists Carlisle United are capable of beating anyone in League Two – once they are back to their best.
The Blues host league leaders Forest Green Rovers tomorrow desperate for big improvement on last weekend’s showing at Sutton.
Midfielder Guy, who has just signed a new two-year deal, says he and his team-mates have worked fiercely hard in training this week in a bid to put things right.
He says the Cumbrians are desperate to put on a better showing for fans.
“We let the fans down [at Sutton] – that was one of the main things,” the 24-year-old said.
“They travelled well in numbers, on such a long away trip, and it just wasn’t good enough. We let ourselves down and the manager down.
“We’ve worked really hard through this week on what we need to put right on Saturday and we’re looking to execute that come 3pm.
“This squad can beat anyone, but against a team doing well…we know we need to be at our best, and our best can beat anyone in this league, top or bottom.
“We’ll go into the game giving 110 per cent and I know we can come away with three points.”
United start the weekend in 17th place and need a quick upturn in results to avoid getting left in the wrong part of the League Two table.
They are unbeaten at home this season, though Forest Green have yet to lose on their travels.
Guy said that, in spite of recent performances, each player is totally committed to the cause.
“We’re trying to work as best we can and as a team and we know the capabilities in the squad,” he added.
“It’s a very talented squad, a young, hungry squad, with a lot of abilities in different positions, people fighting for places and the training intensity’s really good.
“We’ve been working hard this week to put things right. We just need it to click, start games fast and we can pick up the three points.
“This squad is 100 per cent committed to the club and we work really hard day in, day out to try and pick up three points whenever we step out on the pitch.”
