Carlisle United have been linked with a January move for Rangers prospect Josh McPake.
Reports north of the border say the Blues would like to bring in the 20-year-old winger on loan.
The Daily Record report that United want to beat a number of other League Two clubs to sign McPake, who is currently on loan in the third tier with Morecambe.
Tranmere Rovers, Barrow, Hartlepool United and Oldham Athletic are among the other clubs said to be interested in the player.
Coatbridge-born McPake, who has come through the ranks at Rangers, has made just seven appearances for Morecambe in an injury-hit loan spell this season.
It is reported that his season-long loan could be cut short in favour of a January switch elsewhere.
Scotland Under-21 man McPake was previously on loan with Harrogate Town last season, where he scored four goals and 23 appearances and figured in both their league games against the Blues.
That followed previous loan stints with Morton and Dundee United.
Carlisle, who have not commented, are aiming to bolster their squad next month in a bid to climb away from relegaton trouble in League Two.
Directors have pledged that boss Keith Millen will be backed in the market, with the Blues currently fourth bottom after 21 games.
