His old man certainly knew where the back of the net was in a three-year spell with Carlisle United.

And Lee Miller's teenage son Lennon has shown he also has the goalscoring knack - and in more spectacular style than his target-man dad!

The 15-year-old's incredible strike against England for Scotland's Under-16s has just been voted the nation's goal of the year.

Miller junior launched a shot into England's net from the halfway line in a youth international game in August.

The remarkable effort from the young Motherwell prospect came out top in an online fans' vote which featured goals by fellow Scottish stars John McGinn, Caroline Weir, Erin Cuthbert, Claire Emslie, Alex Lowry and Ben Williamson.

Lennon's dad Lee, who played for Carlisle from 2011-14, said it was an amazing honour for his son.

"Can’t quite get my head round this. For Lennon to be nominated was amazing but for him to win it is crazy!! Wow!! Super proud dad. Thank you everyone for voting," he tweeted.

All the more impressive was the fact Lennon's wonder goal came on his international debut for Scotland's Under-16s in the game at St George's Park.

Lennon and his brothers Aaron and Bobby used to join dad Lee for kickabouts on the pitch at end-of-season games at Brunton Park during the striker's spell at Carlisle, when Miller senior scored 32 goals in 98 appearances.

Speaking in the Daily Record after the wonder goal, Lennon said in August: “I check before every kick-off to see where the goalie is standing.

"I’ve tried it before and it’s not come off and been shouted at, but he was so far off his line it should be going in.

“I was surprised at first, but having all my team-mates celebrating with me after it, it was a really good feeling.

“I played on Friday night after it at Motherwell and everybody was really happy for me, they all wanted to see the video.

"We played Celtic in the game on Friday and I was looking to do it again because the goalie was off his line."
