Rangers winger Josh McPake, who was recently linked with Carlisle United, has joined fellow League Two side Tranmere Rovers on loan.
Reports north of the border recently claimed the Blues were in the running to land the 20-year-old, along with a number of other clubs.
But he has opted to head to the Wirral to sign a half-season loan with Micky Mellon's side, who are fourth in the table.
McPake, a Scotland Under-19 international, spent the first half of the campaign at Morecambe.
Mellon said on Tranmere's website: “We’re delighted to sign Josh. We felt that we needed more competition and quality on top of what we already have.
“We need as many options as possible to try and win games and Josh brings us that. He’s a very talented lad and we’re very pleased that Rangers have allowed him to come to us.
“Building relationships with clubs like Rangers is one way we believe we can keep moving things forward."
United are soon hoping to add to their two January signings to date - Joel Senior and Tyrese Omotoye.
