A WORKINGTON woman has been selected to complete in the final of the Formula Women Contest.
Abbie Carruthers, 26, has fought off over 600 applications across 28 countries taking part in multiple assessment days
across the world,qualifying for the final 50 of the Formula Women Contest.
These 50 women will take part in a televised shout out for a fully sponsored McLaren GT4 seat in the 2022 British GT Cup Championship.
The final will take place between the 2nd and 3rd March.
Formula Woman is an all-female motor racing competition, designed to promote women in motorsports.
Open to all women over the age of 17 with a driving license, the applicants are put through their paces in online theory tests, physical fitness assessments, karting trials and on-track tests, whittling them down to the final few.
Abbie has never been afraid of engines. She started out at aged 3 driving quad bikes at aged 3 before Karting between the ages of 10 and 17 and driving JCBs and HGVs on the family farm.
As the multiple-time champion of Cumbria Kart Racing Club, she joined her University karting team, picking up the lap record at Teesside Autodrome.
Abbie started up her own local business, Etch Twenty Eight, a creative laser studio at Lillyhall, using laser cutters to create luxe personalised goods & wedding must haves to customers as far as Australia & USA after getting a degree in design and stepped back from racing for a while..
However, the love of racing never dies and Abbie jumped at the opportunity to apply for Formula Woman.
Abbie commented: "With being a very late entry into the competition I’ve had to put triple the hard work & effort in to catch up and I couldn’t be more proud of myself for doing so.
"Determination and immense support from everyone around me made it happen."
After hours of hard work and determination, Abbie is beyond thrilled to make it through to the final and believes she has what it takes to win.
