Some bookmakers are now making Carlisle United one of the favourites for League Two relegation.
The Blues’ odds for the drop have tumbled in light of their worrying eight-game winless run.
Carlisle fell into the bottom two on Saturday and have 15 games to save their EFL status.
And inevitably some bookies now rate United’s risk of going down as greater than most of their rivals.
Bottom side Scunthorpe United remain odds-on for the drop – as short as 1/25 with some bookies.
Some have now made Carlisle’s price to join them shorter than long-time strugglers Oldham Athletic, who last weekend leapfrogged the Blues.
United’s drop odds are now as short as 6/5 with Bet365.
The same bookmaker make John Sheridan’s Oldham 13/8 to go into the National League.
Carlisle are 13/11 for relegation with SBK, compared with Oldham's 19/13.
Other bookies, though, still have United at longer odds than the Latics.
They are 9/4 for relegation with SkyBet, compared with Oldham’s 3/2 despite the latter’s run of 11 points from five games.
Carlisle’s dramatic shortening of odds reflects their nosedive in form since a promising three-game winning run in December and January.
As recently as late January they were as long as 10/1 for the drop with some bookies.
Others in the survival battle have longer odds, such as Colchester United, Stevenage (both 11/2), Barrow (7/1), Walsall (20/1), Leyton Orient and Rochdale (50/1).
Carlisle are 7/1 to finish bottom of the table, with Scunthorpe 1/6 to prop up League Two come May.
