It will be Simpson's third game back at the United helm - against an Oldham side yet to lose in six games since the return of John Sheridan.
United are a point ahead of the Latics having played a game more.
It is one of the Cumbrians' shorter trips on the League Two calendar with only six opposition grounds nearer to Carlisle.
As well as Sheridan and No2 Tommy Wright, there will be other ex-Blues in the Oldham ranks in the shape of Nicky Adams and Hallam Hope.
The trip follows Simpson's Brunton Park homecoming against Rochdale tomorrow, with the Cumbrians advising fans to buy tickets in advance.
There will be an update about tomorrow later. Media are on it now. It’s going to be big!!! Please buy in advance - that’s the simple message. Don’t leave it to on the night on the gate. Buy now. On line or in person or buy phone.

A larger than normal midweek crowd is expected to welcome the Cumbrian manager for his first home game back in charge against one of his former clubs.
Further evidence of the Blue Army's support has also come with the announcement that United have now sold out their allocation for the all-Cumbrian clash at Barrow.
Carlisle were allocated 612 tickets by the Bluebirds.
It follows the Cumbrians taking a superb 700 following to Orient to see the 1-0 win in Simpson's first game since returning to the Blues.
