A WORKINGTON man has just bagged himself his second professional victory in mixed martial arts.
Iain 'Rollo' Rollason's record will be bumped up to two wins and zero losses after his recent submission victory, on Saturday, against Kofi Marshall at FCC's event at the Bolton Arena.
Rollo, 36, who only turned professional last August, said he had a lot of domination over the fight but one bad kick left him wondering if he would be able to continue.
"The first round went really well, I had a lot of a control but close to the end of the round I took a really sore shot to the groin, I felt the soul leave my body and I actually wanted to quit to be fair.
"But the encouragement from my corner team, family, friends and the crowd kept me going, if it wasn't for them, I probably wouldn't have continued" he said.
Rollo secured the victory in the third round with a submission known as the Von Flue Choke.
Rollo, who also owns Energywise Plumbing and Heating, trains at both The Yard, a Muay Thai gym in Workington, and travels to HAMMA in Saint Helens a few times a week, one of the most renowned MMA gyms in the UK.
"Luckily my partner sorts out everything for me, from food prep to looking after the kids and the likes, I really couldn't do it without her," he said.
Rollo gave plaudits to his coaches, Gareth O'Leary his Thai boxing coach, Nick Cannon who gets up at 6am every morning with Rollo for cardio, and a "big-shout out everyone down at HAMMA down in Saint Helens".
Looking to the future, Rollo said: "It's just about seeing where I can get to in the sport by dedicating my time to each fight camp, I don't really look beyond that because each fight opens new doors."
While Rollo will be getting back into the cage soon, he looks to turn his attention to his wedding on May 7 to his partner who goes "above and beyond" - Amy Brennan.
"I'm looking forward to my wedding more than anything," he said.
