Paul Simpson has hailed the “bravery” of supersub Tobi Sho-Silva after his latest dramatic goal for Carlisle United.
The striker’s 98th-minute equaliser at Tranmere was the fourth goal he has struck in the closing stages of games for the Blues.
The January signing from Sutton United has emerged as an effective finisher late in games for Simpson’s side.
And the manager has again praised the 27-year-old for going about things the right way to earn his opportunities.
“It’s brilliant, really good,” said Simpson of the Londoner’s attitude.
“He was Jonny on the spot to go and get his head on that.
“I thought he was gonna be Jonny on the spot with the worldie volley that he put over the bar.
“It would have been really easy as a striker to take a little step back and not go and get on the end of that next chance.
“Thankfully he was brave enough to keep going. That’s the reward you get, if you do things properly.
“He kept going, got himself in the right area, and managed to get another goal, which is a biggie for us.”
Three of Sho-Silva’s four Blues goals have come after he has been sent on as a substitute.
His effort at Prenton Park came on a day Simpson also made three changes to his starting XI.
It saw recalls for Kelvin Mellor, Rod McDonald and Danny Devine, with Jon Mellish pushing forward into midfield.
There was also a first sub outing since October for fit-again attacker Gime Toure.
Simpson added of the recalled trio: “It’s always difficult coming into a game when you’ve been out for a while. I thought they slotted in well.
“Ideally I didn’t want to have to change Mells from centre-back but I just wanted a bit more energy and front foot stuff in midfield.
“I thought him and Danny gave us that, and I was really pleased to see Kelvin and Rod back.
“It was good to have Gime back too. H he just gives us something a little bit different to the other forward players.
“Although it didn’t happen for him today, he’ll get better and stronger.”
Simpson has other attacking options in reserve in the likes of Tyrese Omotoye, Lewis Alessandra and Owen Windsor, the latter pair not making the squad at Tranmere.
“Lewi was unfortunate to be left out of it because he hasn’t done anything wrong,” Simpson said.
“I just needed a different balance on the bench.
“For a League Two club we’ve got a big group of players, and it’s up to us between now and the end of the season to get the results which gets us safety, and then maybe have a look at some of them and see what they’re like in first team football.”
