Carlisle United's 1994/5 heroes will wear the iconic "deckchair" kit again in this weekend's big reunion game at Brunton Park.

A version of the famous strip worn by Mick Wadsworth's Division Three title and Wembley stars has been produced for Sunday's event at Brunton Park.

Sponsored by North Lakes Energy Group, it will add to the nostalgic feel of what promises to be a memorable day at United's ground.

Favourites from Wadsworth's mid-nineties squad will take on players from Paul Simpson's 2005/6 League Two championship-winning team, while ex-players from other eras will also take part.

Former United midfielders Paul Murray and Chris Lumsdon have been rallying the troops and a host of fan favourites are returning to Brunton Park for the game which will raise money or a former players' fund.

Those helping organise the game have paid tribute to the various sponsors who are backing the event.

They include Manchester United's former Carlisle academy goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is sponsoring the match ball.

"John Ogilvie, who coached Dean in his younger days, kept in touch with him and texted him asking if he fancied sponsoring the match ball," said Colin Carter, who is involved in helping to organise Sunday's game.

"He came straight back and asked for the bank details.

"It's an amazing gesture.

"We're hoping to see him there on Sunday. He was keen to play in the game but I'm not sure Ralf Rangnick - or the isurance costs - would allow that.

"He's said he'll warm up the keepers instead..."

Former United player Derek Walsh, who has played a leading part in the former players' organisation over several years, added: "It shows the connection - he left the club over ten years ago but he's still a local lad."

Organisations who have supported the event with sponsorship include Jim and Helen McLinden from North Lakes Energy Group.

Also backing the day are First Group Engineering, Carlisle Window Systems and Anne Bailey, who are offering sponsorship based on the number of goals scored.

The organisers also thanked Neil McIntyre from Kingmoor Park, who are also sponsoring kit for the game.

"It's all a great help and we're very thankful for it," added Walsh.

"And we must pay tribute to Muzza [Paul Murray] and Lummy [Chris Lumsdon] for everything they've done - the game wouldn't be happening without them."

Stars due to return for the game, whether to play or be involved in other ways, include 90s stars Tony Caig, Darren Edmondson, Dean Walling, Richard Prokas, Stephane Pounewatchy, Paul Proudlock, David Currie and Derek Mountfield.

Those from the successful noughties era attending include Michael Bridges, Kevin Gray, Karl Hawley, Danny Livesey, Peter Murphy, Brendan McGill, Derek Holmes, Chris Billy, Simon Hackney and Danny Graham.

Managers Wadsworth and Simpson will also be there to take charge of their respective teams.

United have announced that the Paddock will be open for the game as well as seating areas in the Main Stand.

Kick-off is 1pm and tickets are available HERE
