Former Carlisle United midfielder Mike Jones has been released by managerless Barrow.

The Blues' fellow Cumbrian League Two outfit have let the 34-year-old go at the end of his two-year deal.

Jones has endured an injury-hit time at Holker Street and made just four appearances in the 2021/22 campaign.

That followed 14 outings and two goals in his first season with the Bluebirds.

Jones, who was a Carlisle player from 2016-20, is one of five players released by Barrow, who are looking for a new manager after this week announcing they had ended talks with Phil Brown.

Also leaving the Dunes Hotel Stadium are midfielders Tom Beadling and George Williams plus defender Kgosi Ntlhe and striker Dimitri Sea.

The culb also announed that defender Matty Platt would be leaving after failing to agree terms over a new contract.

Barrow remain in negotiations with James Jones and Scott Moloney.

"The club would like to thank them for their efforts and wish them well in the future," Barrow said of those leaving Holker Street.

Jones made 156 appearances and scored three goals in his time with Carlisle.

Barrow, after finishing third-bottom of League Two, are back on the manager hunt after it was revealed on Thursday that Brown, who took charge for the last nine games of the 2021/22 season, would not be remaining.

His assistant, the former Carlisle boss Neil McDonald, also departs.
