Fresh reports have said Manchester United's Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson is closing in on a move to Newcastle United.
But it remains unclear whether a season-long loan or money-spinning permanent transfer is on the cards.
The Manchester Evening News have reported that Henderson has been in Newcastle for talks.
And the prospect of the Whitehaven star joining the Saudi-backed Magpies appears to be growing.
The prospect of a windfall for Henderson's former club Carlisle United, though, remains in the balance.
A loan deal would scupper thoughts of a welcome cash boost for the Blues through the terms of a sell-on clause.
The MEN report that both loan and permanent deals are up for discussion.
It follows a season when the ex-Blues academy keeper has made just three first-team appearances, with David de Gea having reclaied the first-choice goalkeeping slot.
Henderson is keen to return to first-team football to reignite his top-flight career and also revive his England hopes ahead of this year's World Cup.
The potential move to the north east comes as incoming boss Erik ten Hag flies into the country ahead of taking charge at Old Trafford.
The goalkeeper, 25, was in the frame for a switch to Newcastle in January but a deal did not materialise.
