Top Cumbrian goalkeeping prospect James Trafford is wanted for another loan spell at Bolton Wanderers.
The teenage Manchester City keeper, from Greysouthen, impressed for the League One club in the second half of last season.
And Bolton want to bring 19-year-old Trafford back for the 2022/23 campaign.
Their goalkeeping coach, Matt Gilks, has said discussions are ongoing and the Trotters are keen to secure England Under-20 international Trafford’s services.
Gilks also says ex-Carlisle United academy player Trafford has all the attributes to go as far as he wants in his career.
Speaking on The Wanderer podcast on the BBC, Gilks said: “I think we’re trying to get him back.
“There’s been ongoing discussions between the two clubs, hopefully we can get it sorted sooner rather than later and hopefully he does another season, a full season, like he finished last season.”
Trafford spent the second half of last term on loan with Bolton after beginning the season at Accrington Stanley.
He became a popular figure at the University of Bolton Stadium and produced some impressive performances.
Gilks said that playing first-team football was now key for a young player who is rated highly at Man City.
“He’s a likeable character, and a bit of a throwback in his character,” he said. “He can be daft but he’s such a strong and powerful lad.
“At 19 he’s got every chance of being anything he wants to be.
“He’d rather be playing at a club like Bolton than playing in Manchester City’s [under] 23s. It makes sense to be here.
“It’s what fits best for him. If he’s happy at Bolton then come back and play. If there’s Championship interest, are you going to play, or be a number two, or go abroad and play.
“If he’s happy in himself to come back to Bolton and play games, I think he’ll do that. If he wants to challenge himself at a higher level, and he’s got his own advisors who he’ll listen to, his decision will be made to do that.
“Hopefully we can entice him back.”
