Former Carlisle United forward Harry McKirdy has called on the EFL to act after claiming he was attacked in the post-match pitch invasion after Swindon's play-off defeat.
McKirdy says he had bottles and lighters thrown at him and was "hit and kicked" by fans of Port Vale after last night's penalty shoot-out.
Other Swindon players are said to have ben caught up in the ugly scenes after the home side progressed to the League Two play-off final.
McKirdy, who missed a penalty in Swindon's shoot-out defeat in the semi-final second leg, later commented on the post-match incidents on Instagram.
"I'll take the stick and the songs. But bottles, lighters thrown at me. Running on and hitting and kicking me/team-mates.
"Too far. Something's got to happen EFL."
Swindon's manager, Ben Garner, also said that some of his players had been verbally and physically abused and spat at after the game at Vale Park.
He told the BBC the scenes were "disgusting" and that action needed to be taken by the football authorities.
The scenes were the latest in a series of concerning post-match incidents recently, with a Nottingham Forest fan having been jailed for attacking Sheffield United's Billy Sharp after a Championship play-off game.

Last night, Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira was involved in an altercation with an Everton fan amid a pitch invasion after the Goodison Park club sealed their Premier League safety.
The League Two play-off game, meanwhile, saw Swindon blow their promotion chance.
Leading 2-1 from the first leg thanks to two McKirdy goals, their advantage was wiped out early on by Vale frontman James Wilson.
There were no further goals in normal time or extra-time, meaning a shoot-out was required - and Vale's hopes faded when two of their first three penalties were saved.
But McKirdy then blazed his attempt over the bar, with Swindon team-mate Josh Davidson going on to be denied by Vale keeper Aidan Stone to keep the contest alive.
Mal Benning then converted for the hosts in sudden-death with Ellis Iandolo's miss for Swindon sending Darrell Clarke's hosts through to a Wembley final against Mansfield Town.
McKirdy's miss, meanwhile, was a bad end to an otherwise impressive season for the 24-goal player, who was with United in the 2019/20 campaign.
He was later the subject of mockery on social media, with old foe Kevin Ellison of Newport County among those taking delight in the ex-United man's misfortune.
The pair had clashed on Instagram earlier in the season when McKirdy compared a battle for the ball between the two to ‘Harry Potter running away from Voldemort’.
Months later, Ellison, 43, took delight in McKirdy’s miss with this Twitter video…
