Cumbrian goalkeeper James Trafford was part of the England under-21 squad who have sealed a place at the 2023 UEFA Under-21 European Championships.

The Manchester City goalkeeper, from Greysouthen, was an unused substitute as the Young Lions beat Albania 3-0 in Chesterfield.

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun netted a brace with Cameron Archer of Aston Villa sealing the victory.

Lee Carsley's side have two games left in their qualifying group, but having dropped just two points in their eight matches thus far they have already sealed their place at the tournament - which will take place in Romania and Georgia in June and July of 2023.

Belgium, Portugal and Spain have also already qualified, and will join both host nations and current holders Germany in the finals.

Trafford and his teammates will now travel to face Kosovo on June 10, before hosting Slovenia in Huddersfield three days later.

The stopper will be hoping to win a first cap for the under-21 side, having already represented England in younger age groups.

The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Bolton Wanderers in the second half of last season, and the Trotters are keen on a return.
