Former Carlisle United goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis has sealed a surprise move to the Championship.

The Australian has left Sutton United for Reading on a three-year deal.

Bouzanis, 31, ends a two-year spell with Sutton, who he helped gain promotion to the Football League before an eighth-placed finish in League Two last season. 

Reading boss Paul Ince has added the experienced gloveman following their earlier loan signing of Joe Lumley.

Ince said on the Royals' website: "Dean is a goalkeeper who I know will put his body on the line and throw everything into keeping the ball out of the net for this football club.

"He becomes part of what is now a solid-looking goalkeeping department, led by the hugely experienced Tony Warner, and I am confident he will be a real asset to the club this season and beyond.”

Former Liverpool and Oldham man Bouzanis was on United's books in the 2013/14 campaign under Graham Kavanagh.

But the Australian never made a first-team appearance in his tie at Brunton Park.

He went on to play in Australia for Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne City and then in the Nertherlands with PEC Zwolle, before returning to England with Sutton in 2020.

Last season the keeper kept two clean sheets against the Blues in Sutton's 4-0 and 2-0 victories.
