Rod McDonald has become the second released Carlisle United player to join one of their League Two rivals.
The defender has signed a one-year deal with Crewe Alexandra.
McDonald follows right-back Kelvin Mellor in making the move from United to the Alexandra Stadium.
The pair will come up against the Cumbrians on October 1 when Crewe visit Brunton Park.
Experienced McDonald was let go by United at the end of last season.
It followed two seasons and 66 appearances for the Blues.
He had joined Carlisle under Chris Beech in the summer of 2020 having previously played for AFC Wimbledon, Coventry City and Northampton Town.
He is now a fifth summer signing for Crewe following last season's relegation from League One.
