Former Carlisle United No2 Tommy Wright has extended his stay at Oldham Athletic.

Wright has agreed a one-year contract extension at Boundary Park.

It will see the 56-year-old continue working alongside his fellow ex-Blues man John Sheridan.

The pair are continung their long-standing connection as they prepare Oldham for life in the National League after last season's relegation.

Wright rejoined Oldham midway through last season as Sheridan took the helm.

They worked together at Brunton Park in the 2018/19 season with Wright then having a spell as joint assistant manager with Paul Murray after Sheridan's departure to Chesterfield.

The duo have also worked together in a previous spell at Chesterfield and Swindon Town.

Wright is currently serving a six-year suspension from football activity - except for coaching - over bribery offences.

Oldham also have ex-Blues on their playing books in forward Hallam Hope and goalkeeper Magnus Norman, who joined the club last week, while former United goalkeeping coach Steve Collis is also on Sheridan's backroom staff.

Oldham, meanwhile, announced last week that the club and Boundary Park could soon have a new owner.

It was confirmed that club owner Abdallah Lemsagam and stadium landlords Brass Bank Ltd had agreed to sell to an as yet unnamed local businessman.
