It might only gain them pride rather than points.

But Carlisle United can still take some satisfaction from their badge being rated one of the best in League Two.

A feature by FourFourTwo has ranked all the club crests in the Premier League and EFL.

And the Blues’ famous badge, featuring two wyverns, the city’s castle and the Be Just And Fear Not motto, is rated higher than many of their divisional peers – and above several top-flight clubs.

United’s badge is placed sixth out of the 24 League Two clubs in the feature written by Tom Hancock.

The five clubs whose badges are rated better than Carlisle’s are Swindon Town, AFC Wimbledon, Tranmere Rovers, Sutton United and – could cause some debate in Cumbria, this – Barrow AFC, whose crest comes third in the entire 92.

Carlisle’s crest, meanwhile, is placed 33rd overall, meaning their badge is said to be superior to those of Premier League outfits Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Brentford, Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Those controversially placed above Carlisle include Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Preston North End.

But the Blues can take pleasure from being rated better than the likes of Hartlepool united, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

The offbeat feature says of United’s badge: “Carlisle’s badge-dwelling wyverns appear to have a much tougher job on their, er, claws than Orient’s, trying to stop the Cumbrian town’s castle from collapsing. Hang on in there, guys!”

Nottingham Forest are judged to have the best badge in the 92.
