The manager of Carlisle United's next opponents Gillingham believes it's only a matter of time before their goal drought ends.

Tomorrow's visitors to Brunton Park have scored just once in five league games.

That leaves them the joint lowest scorers in League Two - while they have gone four matches in all competitions without scoring.

Boss Neil Harris, though, insists that patience will pay off as the Kent outfit bid to get back on the goal trail.

Speaking to Kent Online, Harris said: "How many times have I said we haven’t scored a goal but how good have we been creating chances?

“Goals will come, I know that. As much as I want them now, whilst we’re playing better and getting in the right areas, we’ll keep creating chances and goals will definitely come.

“It’s just that end product. Once we get one, we’ll get two, three or four in a single game and hopefully the floodgates will open for us to score regularly.”

Gillingham have four points from their opening five games following last season's relegation from League One.

Harris's side, who include ex-Blues loan defender Max Ehmer, have drawn blanks in successive league games against Tranmere Rovers, Harrogate Town and Walsall, as well as Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie against Exeter City - a game they won on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

"The last two games I’ve really enjoyed us," Harris said.

“Last Saturday [against Walsall] we were the better team and deserved to win the game, and Tuesday [against Exeter] we were the much better team and definitely deserved to win [on penalties].

“It’s a real positive for us. It’s the fact we’ve gone from looking really shaky at the back to two really solid clean-sheet performances and [in terms of] Carlisle, we go with real confidence into that game.

“I am patient and everyone knows I’m being patient and I’m asking people to be patient.

“We’ll get it right, we’ll move in the right direction, we have to make those small steps and the last two games have been steps and we look forward to Carlisle.”

Scott Kashket is Gillingham's only league scorer so far, while Mikael Mandron and Jordan Green also netted in a Carabao Cup first round win at AFC Wimbledon.
