The 16-year-old son of a former Carlisle United star made history last night.

Lennon Miller, whose dad is ex-Blues striker Lee Miller, became Motherwell's youngest-ever player.

Miller junior came off the bench for his first senior appearance in their 4-0 Premier Sports Cup win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The promising young player only turned 16 last Thursday.

But the Scotland youth international is already now a first-team player at the Scottish Premiership club.

Miller was introduced in the 79th minute at Fir Park.

His dad, who played for Carlisle from 2011-14, spoke of his pride...

And Motherwell boss Steven Hammell said the teenage midfielder had earned his chance.

“It is an incredible feat and it’s well deserved," he said.

“If the rule [about not being allowed to play before 16] wasn’t in place he would have played when he was 15, and it’s not a token gesture to give him a game, it’s because he’s a good footballer.

“He’s a boy I’ve known for years and I’m happy for him, because he’s got a good attitude and he’s a good, humble boy.

“He’s super talented and he just works hard every day.

“He plays with a maturity beyond his years and he’s a good lad, a good player. I’m delighted for him.”

Miller signed professional terms earlier this summer at 15.
