Carlisle United striker Sam Fishburn got his first goal for loan club Morpeth in what he described as a “dogfight” of a game.

The teenage frontman scored in the Highwaymen’s 3-0 win at Stalybridge Celtic.

It saw the 18-year-old off the mark for the Northern Premier League Premier Division club after his move last month.

Fishburn was set up by former Blues player Connor Thomas as he hit Morpeth’s second goal.

It put the north east club fifth in the table and Fishburn later spoke of his delight.

“The first half was brilliant from the lads, getting 3-0 up. It was a dogfight really – coming to a place like this, not the best pitch, but the boys got the win,” he said in a club interview.

“When you’re coming up against players who are older, more experienced and physical, you’ve just got to give it back to them.

“I’m buzzing to get my first goal, and that’s what I’m about – in the box, touch and hit it and it’s my day, it’s went in.

“I’m getting used to the lads, how they play, and Connor got a great assist for me to be able to score.”

The young striker is set for further league action tomorrow night when Morpeth host Bamber Bridge.

Fishburn was one of several young Blues loanees in action over the weekend.

Goalkeeper Gabe Breeze, 18, got his second start for Widnes in Northern Premier League West.

The strugglers went down to a 4-1 defeat at second-placed Mossley.

Breeze linked up with Widnes on a month’s loan last week and made his debut in a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle Town.

Defender Max Kilsby got another start for Annan Athletic as Peter Murphy’s side suffered a heavy defeat in Scottish League Two.

The 18-year-old played the full game as Annan lost 5-1 at Elgin City, for whom Kane Hester scored four.

Tommy Muir got a late consolation for Annan, who sit second bottom after eight games, Kilsby making nine appearances so far during a half-season loan.

United youth keeper Lewis Boyd made his latest appearance for Carlisle City in their Northern League Division One trip to West Auckland Town.

He played his part in a 2-2 draw for Jim Nichols’ side, having recently joined them on a work experience loan.

Jordan Holt and a Jordan Irving penalty earned a point for City, who sit eighth in the table ahead of Tuesday’s Cumbrian derby at 19th-placed Penrith.

Another United loanee, Lewis Bell, was not involved as improving Gretna 2008 chalked up their latest victory.

They saw off Tranent Juniors 2-1 for a fourth straight win under new boss Michael McIndoe in the Lowland League, to move up to 13th.
