Barrow AFC are closing a section of their ground after the firework incident at the Carlisle United game.

The south Cumbrian club have also announced further measures after the shocking incident at the Papa John’s Trophy game.

The Holker Street club have raised the age where fans can buy match tickets unaccompanied to 15.

And the Bluebirds say they will be carrying out “stringent checks” on fans entering the ground.

The series of measures were announced by Barrow the day after Tuesday’s game was held up for 17 minutes after someone from the home end threw a firework into Carlisle’s penalty area.

It exploded a few yards in front of United goalkeeper Michael Kelly.

An arrest was made and Barrow have said the person responsible faces a life ban from the SO Legal Stadium.

After respective managers Pete Wild and Paul Simpson condemned the individual who threw the firework, the club confirmed the action it was taking.

A Barrow statement said:

Following last night’s incidents and speaking to the relevant authorities, the club has decided to implement the following measures:

The age in which you can buy an unaccompanied ticket to enter the SO Legal Stadium has been raised to 15 and over.

We understand there are numerous supporters who have already bought Season Tickets, and we will be reaching out to those to provide a solution, but no singular ticket can be bought alone under the age of 15.

The club will be adopting a stringent check upon entering the ground and any groups unaccompanied will be subsequently challenged.

If you are entering the SO Legal Stadium with your child or children, please make sure they always remain under your supervision.

When entering the SO Legal Stadium, face coverings must not be worn at turnstiles unless for a valid reason. We still have Covid safe turnstiles, so your safety will not be jeopardised.

If you do not comply, we have the right to refuse entry.

In the interim, a section of Holker Street will be closed until further notice.
