Paul Simpson says Tomas Holy has underlined why the Carlisle United boss was so keen to sign him.
Simpson said the way the big Czech goalkeeper took the sting out of certain situation at Tranmere last weekend was telling.
Holy was a priority summer signing for the Cumbrians and the former Ipswich Town man has played every minute in the league so far in 2022/23.
He has kept six clean sheets along the way – and Simpson said the 30-year-old’s stature is helping United build.
Holy made a superb save to deny Kieron Morris in Carlisle’s 2-0 win at Prenton Park, but Simpson was just as pleased with the way he dealt with the home side’s deliveries from wide positions.

“That one save was a good save, and the rest of it was just coming and dealing with crosses,” Simpson said.
“When you’re as tall as he is, he does that really well.
“That’s why I wanted him in the club – I want that side of it.
“I get there might be downsides to him as a keeper but I’m really pleased with what he’s doing.
“At Tranmere he came and took crosses, and killed any threat they had.
“They are a good side in terms of getting crosses in the box and people getting on the end of it. Hopefully Tomas will continue that way.”
Holy will be out to deny Tranmere a second time when Micky Mellon’s side visit Brunton Park in the FA Cup first round tomorrow.
The keeper was named in the League Two team of the week for his efforts last Saturday.
