Two of Carlisle United’s young loan players were in action this weekend – and both ended up on the losing side.
Defender Max Kilsby got his latest start for Annan Athletic.
But Peter Murphy’s side were unable to maintain their recent improved run against Elgin City.
They went down to a 3-1 defeat to Scottish League Two’s third-placed side at Galabank.
Kilsby, 19, played the full game in defence on his 14th appearance of the season during a half-season loan.
Annan, after back-to-back victories, went behind to a Tom Findlay goal before Bryan Cameron’s goal doubled Elgin’s lead before the break.
A Reece Lyon free-kick pulled one back for Murphy’s side but Cameron scored again late on.
Annan dropped a place to eighth, with Kilsby’s next chance to impress coming at Stranraer next weekend.
Striker Sam Fishburn, meanwhile, returned to the Morpeth Town squad for their trip to Warrington Rylands.
The Blues teenager came on in the second half for Craig Lynch’s Highwaymen.
But Fishburn’s 68th-minute introduction was not enough to inspire a comeback at a stage Morpeth were 2-0 down.
That’s how it stayed against a home side for whom ex-Carlisle midfielder Dean Furman was in the starting line-up.
A goal from another ex-Blue, Jordan Mustoe, put Rylands ahead with Callum Dolan doubling their lead before half-time.
Morpeth, where 18-year-old Fishburn is on a season-long loan, sit 13th in Northern Premier League Premier Division.
They are next in action at home to Belper Town next weekend.
There were no games on Saturday, meanwhile, for Lewis Bell at Gretna 2008 and Lewis Boyd at Carlisle City.
City saw their home clash with Bishop Auckland in Northern League Division One postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at the Three Rivers Health & Safety Consultancy Stadium.
They are due to take on Maryport Athletic in their rearranged Cumberland Cup second round tie on Wednesday. United youth keeper Boyd is with City on a work experience loan.
Gretna, meanwhile, are next in action next Saturday at home to Dunbar United in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup second round.
Blues winger Bell is with the Raydale Park club on loan until January.
