Carlisle United's supporters' trust has appointed a new chair and vice-chair.

Matt Spooner and Dan MacLennan have taken on the roles with CUOSC.

Both fans were elected to the board earlier this year having been part of the Unita Fortior movement aimed at revitalising the trust.

They now step up to the senior positions inside the trust following the recent resignation of chair Frank Beattie.

He stepped down from the chair position and the board on health grounds.

Spooner had been vice-chair and then acting chair following Beattie's departure.

The changes were confirmed in a short statement by CUOSC on social media and as part of their weekly members' briefing.

It said: "Following the recent resignation of Frank Beattie, CUOSC this week appointed a new chair, Matt Spooner. Matt joined the board this year after being elected by members at the AGM. He has been filling the position of vice-chair since August.

"Alongside Matt, Dan Maclennan has been appointed to the position of vice-chair."

The duo now take senior roles on a trust board which also includes Billy Atkinson, who represents CUOSC on United's Holdings board, and Nigel Davidson, who sits on United's 1921 operational board.

Other CUOSC board members are Spooner and MacLennan's fellow former Unita Fortior fans Chris Armstrong, Kieron Bulman and Dave Noble, as well as longer-standing members Carol Wilson, and Malcolm Nugent, with Alastair Woodcock and Peter Harrington occupying non-board positions as secretary and treasurer respectively.

The new chair and vice-chair commented on their new roles to the News & Star.

Spooner said: "It's been a privilege to do my bit to contribute to the development of CUOSC since the AGM.

"I don't doubt the importance of our shareholding and know other fans' trusts are envious of this.

"We've got some projects already on the go that look to develop CUOSC over the coming months, and I'm really excited to see where we can go to."

MacLennan, who is also involved with the Brunton Bugle podcast at thecumbrians.net forum, added: "Delighted to be appointed vice-chair and continuing to move CUOSC forward as the fans' voice at Carlisle United.

"We’re currently working on some future projects and we’re all looking forward to engaging with our members as we strive to do our shareholding justice.
