Carlisle United have named Chris Brunskill as their new first-team physio.

The Cumbrian is returning to Brunton Park for a second spell to replace Ross Goodwin.

Brunskill, 32, was previously with the Blues' academy before joining Blackburn Rovers in 2021.

He has now agreed to return to the club to replace Goodwin, who is leaving for a role in Scotland.

Brunskill's first game will be the Boxing Day game against Bradford City at Brunton Park.

United manager Paul Simpson said Brunskill was the top candidate for the vacancy.

“I’m delighted that Chris has agreed to return to the club," Simpson told the club website.

“His was the standout application and he has shown a great desire to want to come back.

“I look forward to working with him and I hope he’ll become an integral part of our backroom staff for years to come.”

Brunskill assisted United's first-team physio department under long-serving Neil Dalton from 2011-14 before joining the club permanently as an academy sports therapist.

He became head academy physio in 2017 for a four-year spell.

At Blackburn he worked with the under-23s and first-team squad.
