He may be a deep-lying midfielder - but he's also shown a nose for goal.
New Carlisle United signing Alfie McCalmont has joined on loan from Leeds United for the rest of the season.
It is a third loan spell for the 22-year-old, following stints at Oldham Athletic and Morecambe in the last two seasons.
He hit ten goals in 39 outings for the Latics in 2020/21. His first two came in a Papa John's Trophy victory at Bradford City, including this very tidy finish...
His first Football League goal then came at Cambridge United - a well-taken winning goal in a 2-1 victory for Oldham...
Another clinical finish then helped the Latics to a 4-2 win at Newport County...
A touch of fortune then aided McCalmont with his next goal - an opener in a home defeat to Mansfield Town...
McCalmont then hit the goal trail in style in the spring, scoring five goals in nine games for a Latics side now managed by former Carlisle boss Keith Curle, against Scunthorpe United, Exeter City, Leyton Orient, Colchester United and Harrogate Town. Here they are....
First, a firm finish from outside the box against the Iron...
Then, a sweet volley past the Grecians...
Then, a whipped finish against the Os...
Followed by a perfectly-placed free-kick against the U's...
And then his final Latics goal - another edge-of-the-area peach at Harrogate to take his season's tally into double figures...
Last season, McCalmont was on loan at Morecambe and from 31 appearances, he scored once - this effort at Wycombe Wanderers which caught out the opposition...
He's scored goals for his country too - including this beauty for Northern Ireland Under-21s against Hungary...
Then there are moments like this for his club - another impressive finish for Leeds' Under-21s against Nottingham Forest in Premier League 2 this season
A little of the above will do very nicely for the Blues between now and May...
