Carlisle United are remaining tight-lipped on claims they are set to sign Crystal Palace striker John-Kymani Gordon.

Reports tonight suggest the Cumbrians are poised to bring in the young Premier League striker on loan.

United are keen to bolster their attack and Gordon, 19, has been strongly linked with the club for several days.

The Blues, who have made two January signings so far, have not commented on the latest reports.

The club's position is not to discuss the identities of targets or comment on moves until deals are rubber-stamped.

Gordon has reportedly attracted interest from other clubs in Leagues One and Two.

The highly-rated teenager has come through the ranks at Selhurst Park and has impressed for the south London club's under-21s this season.

He has been a regular goalscorer in Premier League 2, hitting two hat-tricks, and also scored twice for Palace's under-21s in a Papa John's Trophy victory at Swindon Town this season.

He was also named September's Premier League 2 player of the month.

Among the coaches Gordon works under at Palace is professional development coach Shaun Derry - a former managerial colleague of Carlisle's head of recruitment Greg Abbott.

He is yet to make a first-team appearance, but has been on the bench for Patrick Vieira's side, and signed a contract extension last month. A loan move this month would be the first of his career.

United's strikeforce has been depleted recently by the injury to Ryan Edmondson and the departure of Jack Stretton.

Paul Simpson's side take on Newport County this Saturday, with new loan signings Jack Robinson and Alfie McCalmont likely to be in the squad for the first time.
